I have 1947 1/2 ton pickup and recently fitted a disc brake conversion to the front. During maintenance I couldn't get the grease gun to fit onto the nipple on the kingpins as the new brake bracket is in the way so need to replace the a cranked type . What size is the thread on these please.
Also on the rear axle I see what looks like there could be a way of lubricating the rear wheel bearings by removing a plug on the bearing housing , is this so?. Many thanks Central screw plug
I'm not sure on the front end question, but can offer an opinion on the rear axle question. Ford had grease zerks installed there prewar, and eventually eliminated them. My memory is that you don't do an adequate job of greasing the rear wheel bearings using those zerks. Best to pull the hubs and put eyes on things.
Maybe I have used the incorrect terminology, and used "grease zerks" instead of nipple. It's what they are referred to here in the UK. Sorry for any confusion. A picture is better than
a thousand words so here goes. Thank you in anticipation.
