I believe that all of the AUH's that have failed were of the aluminum variety. At least all of the ones that have been pictured on FTE have been. The steel ones are rated at 26k IIRC.
Anderson had instructions to drill out the bottom frame for the pucks so you could use the safety chain connectors. I did it and it worked but I really didn't like all the up and down with landing gear so I snagged a b&w companion that uses the puck system. Hooking up is easier, the hitch isn't that heavy in 2 pieces, and you don't have to worry about the warranty drama.
The only reason Lippert has approved the Reese goosebox is because they have a financial agreement with each other, has nothing to do with strength or safety.
I hear lots of internet rumors about Andersen's failing, but nobody ever has any first hand experience or pics to prove it (besides the one we've all seen)
If you don't like the aluminum Andersen, take a look at the Pullrite 2600, similar concept but steel construction, and not very heavy at only 52 lbs.

I don't doubt the financial side, but a Goose Box is not a weak hitch and as safe as they come.
Nothing wrong with the reese goosebox, and i dont get paid by gen-y (unfortunately) but i like there stuff and it seems to be a great product. Actually slightly cheaper to get the gen-y, i bought it since it was a local option. Reese goosebox would have come freight and taken a month.

One advantage to the GooseBox is that it is 2.7" longer than the Gen-Y, so you get more offset built into the hitch.
