hitch question

i have a 02 f350 that i purchased to pull my fifth wheel camper. the truck doesnt have the rails mounted in the bed for the hitch so thats on my list of things to do. i removed the rails out of my previous truck but couldnt remove the brackets on the underside do to the fact that the previous owner welded them to the frame. after setting the rails in the bed with the correct measurements the rails fall center of four of the bolts that hold the bed to the frame. my question is why cant you use the bolts that hold the bed on to also hold the rails and bed on with some shims under the rails to take up the gap on the bottom side? seems like this would be stronger than just four brackets on each a cornor of the hitch. what do yall think and has anybody done this?

I'd hate to admit to this but my truck has a huge plate bolted down to the 4 bolts tour talking about. Actually they are grade 8 with by locks underneath and I haven't been able to pull them out or shake the bed around. Heck everytime I load my tractor the back of my truck comes off the ground a foot or so! Trailer weighs 7500lbs and tractor goes around 10000 depending what type of implement is attached. Guess what I'm saying is since it's already in the truck I use it but to do it over it would be attached to the frame! Also mine doesn't even have the spacers in the frame where the bolts are. Guess this shows how tuff these bodies are on these trucks!!

You have a dangerous situation there. I encourage you to use blocks under the trailer at the back to support the weight while loading and unloading. Get several 4X6 blocks, 12 to 18 inches long. It is safe, easy and cheap.

I keep several wood blocks in my truck bed.

Thanks for the concern! I know it can't be safe or good specially when you forget to latch the ball"doph", yea been there and done that! No that you mention it I've seen where some of the trailers have some drop down legs to do just what you said and keep that load off the truck so I'll probly make a set!
