How long is a sync software update supposed to take over Wifi? I've had an update pending for at least a few days, and it's parked where it gets decent wifi strength. It should be connected to my wifi network too. I guess it depends on signal strength and such, but anyone have a ballpark? And does the truck update software when it's off, or does it have to be sitting running for that to work?
Sitting in my truck, I did a speedtest on my phone, and it's getting 110 mbps download through that same wifi network.
sync software up date to ver.3.4.21020 took close to 2 hours in my 2019 ranger over probably the slowest internet speed in canada. my download speed is 8.21 mbps and im in rural ontario.so if you are connecting at 110 mbps. it should`nt take you more than a few minutes.now if your talking about map updates then it will take a bit longer. I am a member on the ranger5g.com/forum and there is a lot of talk about updating the sync and uploading new maps. from what i understand there is anywhere from 7 to 13 map updates depending on you location ie(canada usa) and most of the maps are over 1gb long, so i dont think I can wait for the rest of my life for map updates but im happy with the new sync version.

Thoughts?
The sync 3 update over wifi is a fail. It won't update, you will need a USB. This has been covered before and all you end up with is the pending message.

Sync files are only a megabyte or two. At 8 Mbps, that's about a megabyte per second. So 2 seconds should do it if it were a bandwidth issue. Something else is the issue.

I probably shouldn't be getting Map updates, since I don't' have navigation, although maybe the files are the same either way.
I like the navigation through Android Auto with my phone better anyway. the "stock" navigation is a hilariously overpriced option.
The map updates can be very large, but the sync updates are not very large at all.
Yep, the sync update didnt take long at all. I actually thought is was done, then I checked the truck and it had started another download. It's been updating since May 6th. I swapped it tp my faster wifi today. I'm already showing 2 20 on the Nav, so I have no clue what is downloading now.
Well, I guess it really does download while the truck is off. I was away and my truck sat at the house for a few days and it updated during that time. Neat.
Yup. I left my key in truck, accessory on, took about 20 minutes. Why I was in a hurry to get the update? Now my traffic on my maps no longer works. pos...............
It didn't seem to do much for me when I was sitting key-on. But guess it didn't matter for me. Glad it updates like it is supposed to overnight without intervention by me.
If it happens effortlessly in the background without my intervention, then that's fine by me. I guess if it ever gets annoying I'll do the USB route, but I was hoping this would work by itself and it did.
