Hi Dennis, The paint was dumped in abandoned Iron mines that were dug from pre revolutionary days till 1921. My favorite part of the world, the Ramapo mtns, Sterling Forest. On Good Friday 1964 a buddy and I walked along the Erie railroad tracks from Glen Rock N.J to Sloatsburg N.Y. We then walked up the abandoned iron mine railraod tracks. That would be the Sterling Mtn RR. Before the railroad took the iron out of the mines and brought it to where it was used...mules and oxen ...did that work. The railroad didn't start till 1865. Lots of history right there.
My uncle worked in the Mahwah shop that maintained the over the road transport trucks. From 1954-57. The name on the tractor doors used to be, "University Overland Express," or UOE.
All the best Pete.

thats a great story man. My girlfriend works as a medic in that area often. There is a very high rate of deformities and cancer in those areas compared to others . Supposedly there was more crap dumped than just in the mines. Allegedly the kids used to find gooey pieces of paint and chew on them and the rivers were thoroughly contaminated. I think that went on until the 80s. Anyway living in north Jersey, everyone has heard the rumors . You don’t go on that land with as much as a fishing pole or you’ll get your *** handed to you by locals.
Hi Dennis, Ty for your info too. Something there are so many "strange" medical conditions in that area. Really appreciate you writing. So many don't have the common decency to write back individually Just a trite,"Thanks for all the comments guys." That is why I seldom write.
All the best, Pete.
I thought this forum was focused on slicks. If this is where the the discussions are headed count me out. There are other forums that are more appropriate for issues not directly related.
