I know this sounds stupid but does anyone know what kind of engine this is. 65 f350. The guy thought it was a 272 . I’ve never heard of that nor could I find any examples of this truck having that.
Its a 352 being a 65. The 292 was last used in 64. The 352 was the standard engine used up through 77? with the 360 & 390s being options. The 360 replaced the 352 in the 70s as the base engine I believe. I had a 75 F350 super cab with the 390 tow package. 1977 the 390 was replaced by the 460, Good trucks
I apologize if this posted twice . Not sure if this helps. I figured a 352 would produce more HP than 172 but I don’t really know much about it being this old. None of the parts sites even have a 352 listed as an option. Hell I’m not even sure it’s a 65. Like someone said the 64 had a 272.
I looked up a decoder for that warranty number and it seems to be a 64. Made in the mahwa plant. That’s about an hour from where I bought it. That was the plant where for dumped all this paint in the water and lost a huge lawsuit to the ramapo Indian tribe. They made a movie about it Ford vs Mann
Your truck was made within a few days of mine which is the same color, and also has a flatbed... (s/n is only ~400 different) Mine was stretched by a previous owner about 2 feet. Also 4.88 gears and I added a brownie for over/underdrive.
As others have said, the original engine is a 352. But when I got mine 20 years ago, the owner told me it had been repowered with a '69 car 360. If you're going to buy internal engine parts, definitely check closely - all the FE's basically look the same from the outside.
Also, watch that rust at the bottom of the A-pillars and the floor, it's always worse than it looks. See my thread "Time for some bodywork" (and others) for details

Wow that looks great. do they make bed conversion kits so you can have a regular bed that dumps? That sounds like something that may be a sacrilege question but just wondering

That is a very nice original truck. I would love to have one like it with a dump kit. I've always liked those flat top valve covers.
I would also like to have a dump kit... throwing all that firewood down the hatch gets really old after a while
Hopefully someone who has one can post.
You can easily add a dump, something like this... https://www.northerntool.com/shop/to...E&gclsrc=aw.ds
Can probably fine a used one a lot cheaper though. Back in 65 it would have been a pto driven hydraulic pump but a lot of the smaller trucks now use electric driven pumps.
