NMK5 -- keep in mind, your 68 probably has an Autolite 1101 carb, if its still stock, and your friends 74 will have a Carter YF. The carters are easier to find air cleaners for. It doesn't suprise me that you had trouble finding one for your carb. The autolite has this tiny, 2 1/16 O.D. neck.
I was able to find paper air cleaner housings by looking for some of the other vehciles that had autolite 1100/1101 carbs. Straight six Falcons, Fairlaines and Mustangs had them. Lot of Mustang cleaners floating around that were swaped out for bigger carbs, so that is a good source. I found one with a nice pre-polution snorkle, painted it and slapped a new decal on it and it looks pretty nice.
I've got the carter. Judging from what I read, probably one of the first ones in the 300. Supposably they switched in 69. But mine had one. Mine could be a late 68. They switch stuff mid year many times, or due to what is at hand. MK
Thank you but ,no, I'll follow everyones advice and use paper, I know where theres a packerd air cleaner like yours, its an oil bath but it can be cleaned up, modified and painted. Thank alot Warren
