I am restoreing a 67 f250 camper special and it has no air cleaner at all. any one know what the original looked like? and also the alternaters wires are riped rite out of it. i am inclined enough to run new one but does any one know which ones go where? any help would be great. thanks. warren
The original was a big oil filled thing. Mine was half missing...So I converted an old chevy air cleaner I had to fit. I had to cut the bottom carb flange for the 1 bbl, to attach it to the base of the gm cleaner. Works great...But I want to get a real ford air cleaner some day. Some use the open hot rod type of cleaners with the chrome tops, but I don't like all that air noise you get from one. Hisses like crazy when you goose the gas. So I use a full air cleaner with a snorkle. Much quieter. I'd scour junk yards for an older air cleaner with a base that fit's your carb. I'd probably avoid the older oil filled cleaners, and get a newer element only filter. But the oil filled filters are good for extreme dirty duty...They are just a pain to deal with. I'd get the oil filled though, if you want to stay strictly original. Thats what it came with from the factory. MK
NM5K, Was the oilbath filter standard in 67 or an option? According to my documentation in 1969 it was an option, I assume a paper filter setup was standard.
Not sure. Maybe it was an option. I thought it was standard because the original ford pix I have show the oil filter, and my plain jane f-250 had one. But maybe they did use the paper filter as stock. Maybe it was more of an F-250 and larger type deal as far as how common they were...MK
hey i have a 1970 f250 i recently switched to an open sided k&n filter i have the original air cleaner with snorkel and even the manifold stove intact you can have it
shoot me an email jstatton@dslextreme.com and you can have it
zrtkicks -- matters a lot what engine you have in there. The older sixes with Autolite 1101 carbs have a very small carb neck at about 2 1/16 inch O.D. Later 2 and 4 barrel carbs all have more common 2 5/8, and 5 5/8 air cleaner sizes.
Unless you are a real purist, I would NOT go back to the oil breather. There are reasons why they were phased out. They suck more dirt, impeed airflow more than the paper filters. If you have a paper filter setup that fits, then keep it!
The oil bath was optional and they actually work quite well and only require about 1/2 quart of oil to service which is much cheaper than buying an element. They were phased out because people just didn't want to mess with them anymore.
zrtkicks you didn't say what engine you have but assuming it is a V8 you shouldn't have any trouble finding one to fit the carb. If you do any winter driving you may want the original with the hot air stove. As far as an aftermarket one goes there are some better ones that actually flow better than no aircleaner at all. I think moroso has one of those. Also I reccomend the K&N type filter for their superior flow even when dirty. and you just wash it out instead of replacing it.
she has been dubbed ol yeller, for the yellow paint, any one know how to figure out horsepower? I rebuilt this 352 with stock short block. Then upgraded the cam to a mild r.v. cam and put on a stock cast iron 4bbl intake with a holly 750 carb and left the stock exhaust manifolds with dual ex. Thanks Warren
Welcome to the forums zrtkicks!
Since you have the four barrel set up on your engine you should get one of the air cleaner types like I found and installed. Edelbrock and others all have one out there that looks good and standard filters or K&N type filters are available for them.
I found a Ford Motor Sports one at the local PEP Boys here. It's just like Edelbrocks. I like the chrome ones myself so I grabbed it. I then purchased a K&N filter to go in it. You can look at my set up in my gallery.
The filter breathes like there isn't even one on there and I can clean it later on when it's needed.
You should be able to find a air cleaner at any good parts store near you or online as well.
Good luck.

Hello fellow FTE and WI truck person ... I am down in Madison (I see you are an Up North WI Person) If you are looking for the stock orig. Oil Bath Air Cleaner for 352 in a 67, e mail me off line through profile, I can help.
and NM5K what part of the aircleaner were u missing
I guess the top mainly. I only had the base. But if I get another ford filter, I just want a plain paper element type. I don't need the oil filter for what I do. I guess most any one up to 79 or so might work...Not sure. My friends 74 240 has one that would be a good fit for mine. Had the squarish looking snorkle, and the heat stove. I don't need the heat stove as I have a heat riser valve on the manifold. My converted GM filter works fine. I'd just like to get a ford filter housing so it will be all ford. The ford unit is "old ford" blue and matches the engine. The GM filter unit I'm using is black. MK
