This should be an easy question for someone other than me. Did any dents come with a plastic rear tank that would fit my '77 up gas door bed/frame? Mine is gone and I'd like to know if there is a possibility of finding one in a junkyard.
Thanks guys. I knew about some aftermarket ones (I wasn't aware of that many sources/manufacturers). I just don't know that I trust JY fuel tanks to be rust free and don't want to coat/seal them or anything. If I'm going to shell out for new I'll probably end up going for the jumbo extra capacity metal one.
Well remember with a deeper/high capacity tank you will need to get longer hdwr to drop the tanks bottom support straps lower. Maybe all thread?
And if you are running a under the tank spare tire, here is one with a high capacity fuel tank.
I put one of the aftermarket tanks on my truck 15+ years ago. It sat most of that time and the fuel in it went rotten and gummed up. Now I am restoring that truck and I cleaned the plastic tank with a hot water rinse and it was like new.
NO way a metal tank would have been in that state after sitting with bad fuel in it. These are a good upgrade IMO.

Thanks, Like Doosenberry guessed, my plans are for my truck bed trailer. So I actually have my spare tire mounted where the driveshaft would normally be. I got a junkyard spare tire winch mechanism from a late model Dodge and bolted it to a support I added so I can just crank the spare up in front of the axle.

Hmmm... then run a rubber line to your Bronco for super extra capacity... lol.
I'm thinking about it. That trailer is set up for hauling my dirt bike and camping. Also, there are times on hunting trips that I could use an extra tank of gas without driving out of the mountains to town and back, wasting half a day. If I was fancy, and rich, I'd figure out a way to rig up an electric pump and long hose and be able to fill things easily, but my initial plan is mount some sort of tap near the bottom of the tank and use that to fill up a jerry can and then transfer to motorcycle or truck can by can.
Nice idea of using a newer tire cable crane to mount it. Get a quality 12 V elec in line fuel pump, get the power from your trailer wiring. Use the original style sending unit (just the pick up tube) and hard plum it to a coiled up 4' or 5' piece of 1/2" or 3/4" EFI hose line, that is your "filler hose". Use a metal petcock valve on the end. Store in a 50 Cal ammo box mounted under there on the frame rail.
