PVD coating peeling

I was washing my truck yesterday and the chrome coating is flaking off the front wheel. Any else experience this? My truck was garage kept until this winter when i started storing a second jeep in the garage.

I use a ph neutral wheel cleaner that is supposed to be pvd safe.

not bad yet but if i work at it i can peel more.

i’m not a big after market wheel fan. i guess i’ll start looking for take offs in my area. tires have 45k but i rotate them so tread is still okay. take offs may net me new tires with decent wheels.

If mine was under warranty, I'd take it in to be addressed. Ford needs to account for a durability shortcoming. But my truck is out of the bumper-to-bumper. I have the PVDs. If they started to peel, I'd sleep at night and just move on. It's a cosmetic defect. I know you know this. And everyone has their own tolerance for even minor things. There's no way I'd be looking for replacement PVDs. If I was really concerned about it, I'd take the rims in, have them stripped and then either properly electro-plated, polished, or painted. I've thought for mine, maybe a nice metallic Caribou. Or just some takeoffs that are not PVDs. But mine are fine. And my truck has always been parked outside. I don't think it's environmental. I think it's just luck of the draw in manufacturing. Like maybe a planetary alignment deal or something like that.

i will not get pvd wheels for sure. i’m also out of bumper to bumper. i have the extended but i’ll wager this is not covered.

i did find a guy who bought a 21 and took the wheels and tires off as soon as he got home. i will see what his price is. new tires and non pvd wheels may be an affordable option now.

I'd take this as a sign to powder coat them black, but that's just me.

Actually just noticed and posted the same issue on mine a couple weeks ago. Seems this is chronic. I am out of warranty and will be looking for some stock cast aluminum wheel take offs or will go as near stock fit aftermarket as I can find as the peeling gets worse.
