H&S Mini Maxx Advice

So what's the opinion on this device...I just bought one for doing my DPF delete and it seems they have been out of business for a good while, but people are still selling their products? Should I be concerned about any software updates? Are the vehicle specific tunes the same after 2013 (latest vehicle listed in the instructions)....my truck is a 2015. And how do I know whether to follow USA/ULSD CALIBRATIONS or the HIGH SULFER CALIBRATIONS from the instructions? I just want to delete the DPF and eliminate the EGR...don't care to bump up HP.

It's high risk in my opinion. (A) those calibrations have not been improved in a long time and (B) there isn't support if you have issues (for any non-emissions calibrations from anyone at this point). Even higher risk for a 2015 since H&S was closed in 2013 due to the high fines.

If you aren't having significant issues (such as EGR and DPF or EGR and DEF issues, or all three), it's just not worth it now unless you know someone with the overall skill set. I think reality is now, even if you had issues where all three major systems need replacing, it's just going to cost >$7,000 for such repairs and is the diesel owning reality until further refinements are made for all use cases.

You would not use the high sulfur tunes as the USA and Canada is ULSD.

Best bet is to sell the tuner and get your money back. If you delete and get stranded, it will cost a lot to get back on the road.

Not so much anti-delete. We see many who have deleted come back here complaining that they cant get their trucks running again. Or this-that-and-the-pther-thing isnt working right. The fact is that it is getting harder to delete and seems obvious to me that the OP bought something not knowing its hard to find tunes.

I personally dont care if you delete or not. Just dont come cryin here if your stuck somewhere.

Not anti-delete. It is as Djousma said, there are many threads on here where something happened and now the truck has codes. They then have trouble finding how to clear the codes. Or a dealer updated the ECU and blew away their tune. Or no shop wants to work or it.. Or they bought a truck WITHOUT the tuner and having problems, unknown tunes, etc.

Also,, you get pulled over by the police, you might get put out of service and then you have to tow your truck home or maybe even get reported to the EPA and have to pay a fine.

I'm certainly not anti delete (unless the intent is coal rolling). However, it's quite difficult now and owners need to have an understanding of what is or isn't reliable. If you know how to help OP with a reliable 2015 MY calibration and hardware, by all means PM OP with the information so an informed decision can be made. Long term could be difficult.

So I'm not actually looking to TUNE, I'm just looking to Delete...and my understanding is the MM has a setting for eliminating the DPF/DEF/EGR in a "stock tune" setting. Or is there another product on the market that those of you do Delete, prefer to use?

That is what "Deleting" is all about. Removing the EGR, CAT and DPF along with the DEF tank is deleting.

There are "no tuners" such as the EDGE or SuperChips or etc that will eliminate EGR, CAT or EPF that is sold over the counter. They are designed to work with the stock emission system.

You might can buy tuners with tunes but more often than not, they are "married" to another truck and will have to be reset which will most likely remove any tunes on the tuner.

Since you say this is going to be a "farm truck", buy something like the EDGE monitor that will let you do manual regens when you need to clean the DPF.

It would still require flashing (which the process does an erase first) the ECM and likely the TCM with the third party calibration for the truck to operate without the emissions hardware. I've never used a MM but I don't see how their device would be any different.

I thought tunes were locked to the purchasers VIN number. But you may be just talking about his experience with his tune.

When the term tune is used, when it comes to running deleted, it means the ECM is fooled into thinking the emissions components are there or whatever specific happens. I don't know.

But I know what you are trying to say. You want a stock power level delete tune. The tune is the software that overwrites the factory software in the ECM. Good luck.

Yes and correct, my intent was the knowledge transfer of how OP could get a supported option of what he is searching for.

To answer what the original poster asked: H & S is awful. Zero support, terrible tunes, bad track record. Your best plan, would have been to ask this before you purchased it. The best plan now, is to sell it. For the record, I am not anti-delete. I've been deleted for several trouble free years...

I had a mini max on my 6.4L. It worked fine but I forgot I was in a tune and towed my trailer over Mount Eagle TN in a tune. Blew a head gasket. If you use it never tow in anything above stock. What all those above are telling you is true. H&S the company got a big time fine from EPA. I think they are still in business in Canada. My truck got totaled and I reset it to stock no delete and sold the tuner. As I recall mine would not work in anything after 2011 or 2012. You can buy a tuner capable of being programmed to STOCK NO DPF/EGR. Those who sell the tuners mostly don"t load the tunes. So, you must buy one probably on line and then find a person to write you a tune. They will write whatever you want. All the negative stuff they said above is true. Also, you can find people who will come and reprogram the trucks computer. If you do that you run the risk of having to find someone to unprogram it if something changes. And I guess you know that to delete he DPF you have to find, buy, and install a replacement exhaust and muffler (please). Hope this helps you.
