C6 Modulator question...

The new governor/ modulator I ordered to replace my old one has only ONE vacuum line going to it. The old one has TWO vacuum lines going to it. What gives? It is the exact part that the book called for at Rock Auto.

What am I missing? Obviously I ordered the wrong one... Anyone know where to get the correct one?

1974 F100 4wd, C6, 360 FE.

Piccy:

New modulator ~ 1 vac line

Old modulator ~ 2 vac lines

Your original was a dual diaphragm version. Strictly an emissions related part (had to do with the EGR).
Install the new modulator, connect the line that goes to direct manifold vacuum and cap off the other line.
However, if you really want to replace with a dual diaphragm version, look for one that replaces Ford P/N D4AZ-7A377-B, that's a dual diaphragm unit and has a pink band. Ford ID's the modulator by the color of the band.
Also, replacing the modulator is easy, remove the bolt that holds the clamp in place then pull the modulator out. But be careful, there's a pin in the modulator that may or may not come out with the modulator. If it comes out, don't lose it. Be sure to put it in the new modulator.

Okay, that makes a lot of sense... The 2 vacuum lines that were attached went to manifold vacuum and the EGR baseplate. I may have to find the other "pink stripe" version I suppose. I'm not certain I will eliminate or bypass the EGR yet. I don't have smog where I live, but just not certain how to do it yet... I have a base plate without EGR, would just need to figure a way to plug the hole in the manifold.

Thanks man for the info!

You don't need to "eliminate" the EGR, all you need to do is cap the vacuum line that goes down from the system to the modulator.
