Brakes

Looking to do all new brakes and rotors on my 2000 f250 long bed. Might even consider new calipers. What’s the best brand y’all would recommend?

Napa is having a sale on their lifetime rotors
Take a look at Hawk SD pads, or EBC yellowstuff or greenstuff pads.
Lifetime calipers from autozone

All of these have good reviews from folks here.

I was impressed with the pad/rotor price for the Powerstop Z36HD brakes on Amazon which seem to get good reviews. I don't know if I'd get the set with the calipers but I was very close to getting this set:

Best is SSBC like @FordTruckNoob has.

For my use, I selected AutoZone calipers, StopTech slotted rotors, Hawk SD pads, Motorcraft rubber hoses and Valvoline fluid.

Asking about brakes is nearly like asking about oil or turbos, you really just have to do the homework and find the best fit for you.

If you feel that you have money burning a hole in your pocket, there is a Wilwood kit out there that’s even better than SSBC. It requires that you use 20” wheels to provide sufficient clearance. I’ll post a link when/if I can find it again.

Would y’all recommend replacing the calipers as well if they are original? Any experience with EBC rotors from riff raft diesel?

What makes you think those calipers are original? And I decide whether to replace them or not based on how hard they are to compress to bottom position. But then I just had to replace two because the bleeders were frozen solid + they were pretty rusty and scheduled to freeze up soon.

So far so good with my rear calipers. Just remember to keep those slide pins well greased.

I'm a NAPA kind of guy but I have had issues with some of the others. Not The Zoo but at Advance I got a new Chinese caliper and I had to take it back for another because the machining on it was screwed up and things wouldn't fit. I guess they use some new Chinese stuff in place of remans.

I looked at them, spoke to their engineering guys, seriously not impressed. Whole bunch of money for no performance gain. They are geared towards looking cool, nothing remarkable about them.

If you are looking for a true performance caliper or want to go with aftermarket larger rotor you can’t go wrong with Willwood. Walk the pits at any race anywhere in the world and see who's brakes dominate.

for our vehicles Raybestos is making brand new castings which means no more leaking piston seals due to pitted cores on remanufactured calipers.

My opinion is just that, an opinion. Based on no factual information or data.

Although, what impresses you or me, may be absolutely mundane to another. For example, the ability SpaceX has proven of landing and reusing a rocket booster. I find this very impressive and groundbreaking, but someone like you may not care at all and find it very underwhelming.

Your Wilwood recommendation was brought up by FordTruckNoob in post #5 three days ago after I tagged him as having SSBC. So, it seems by sheer happenstance, we were recommending the same parts. But, FordTruckNoob also stated some of the "pitfalls" associated with a Wilwood kit, like the price and the required larger wheel. Based on the original question posed by "muddslinger48", I read between the lines and saw that he was not looking to spend $4000 or more for brakes, hence the SSBC opinion.

Frankly, I just replaced all of my brakes with parts that I listed in post #4 based on my own desires, budget and expectations. They perform great.

Thank you for your contribution to the thread, your words of advice are always welcomed and sought after.
