I’ve got a 94 F250 with a 460. Started the truck a few weeks ago and it died after 30 seconds or so. Acted like it ran out of gas. Here’s a list of new parts and tests I’ve done.
MAP sensor
Air intake temp sensor
rotor cap and button
fuel tank a pump.. front tank
Ignition coil
Sent my ECM off to be checked.. they replaced the capacitors.
injector pulse test with noid light passed
40 psi fuel pressure at rail while cranking
it has good spark.
It has no cats but does have a resonator and flow master muffler
it will start and run with starting fluid.
Truck ran like a top 2 days before issue started.
Im at the end of my rope on this one... Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
I would suggest to verify the injectors themselves are not plugged up with gunk. Starts with fluid, noid lights indicate injector pulses but no start without extra fuel leads one to think no fuel can pass through the injectors.
Thanks for the reply... I tried to loosen the rail enough without removing the throttle body... couldn’t get enough room to get an injector out... I’m gonna take it apart tonight.. see what I can find... it’s just so puzzling how it started right up and ran for 30 seconds or so then died....
Rare cases the PIP signal is too low to trigger the computer to fire the injectors/spark but the ICM will trigger in limp mode. That's why I asked to verify the injectors can pass fuel when triggered. If they pass fuel then you may have one of those instances where the PIP signal is compromised or the computer is bad. New capacitors does not always save a failing computer, but more diagnosis is needed to protect your wallet thickness.
I’m gonna pull the injectors in the morning... check out the rail as well... I spoke with a local mechanic on the way home and he pointed me in the same direction... I’ll let ya know what I find. Thanks again for the input...
The tank and pump are new. As is just about everything else at this point..LOL... I checked resistance on all of the injectors. All were in spec. As far a s I can tell the fuel lines are in good shape. I sent my ECM to Car Computer Exchange. I explained to there lead tech the problem I was having. He said they would check everything and repair what was needed. I have a lifetime warranty with them now so if it turns out to be the computer I will just send it back. When I pulled the fuel rail it seemed to be fine. no blockages or anything. Before I pulled all the fuel stuff I left my gauge on it overnight. It held 40 PSI all night. Had to work late tonight so I will continue my quest tomorrow.
