4r100 Knowledge please.
Hello everyone,
This is my first post here. Hoping someone can help me out or at least shed some light in my issue. So i drive a 00 expedition 5.4 with the 4r100. For as long as i can remember i could be driving down the highway at 70-80mph and hit the gas and at WOT it would down shift to about second gear and the RPMs would jump to 4000. But now if i go WOT on the highway it seems like it only drops to third gear and only about 3000-3500 RPM. Even if i turn overdrive off, it goes the third gear and then when i floor it it wont drop a gear.
Am i going crazy or is the transmission working fine?!?!?!?

Usually the first step is to pull codes. Do you have a flashing CEL or OD light?
You need a way to read codes. Ford dealers and better transmission shops have the right code readers. Or you can find a way yourself, as explained in this thread, especially post 4.

If you turn off orerdrive then the transmission is in 3rd gear. The 4r100 is a 4 speed with reverse , hence the 4r. How old are the plug/wires/coils? Fuel filter possibly due to be replaced?
