MAYBE I DON'T EVEN NEED A SLIDER IN AN F350 SHORT BED.
MY 318SAB COUGAR HAS A PRETTY SEVERE CUTAWAY ON THE SIDES OF THE FRONT CAP.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I would say no, you do not need a slider. I started pulling my 5er with a CCSB and the B&W turnover ball with a B&W companion hitch. No, I could not turn 90 degrees, but did not need to either.
Why didn't the manufacturer build it with a GREASE FITTING, so you don't have to take it all apart to lube...... dumb!!!
You are right . Having to take down the pin box and do yearly maintenance. (looks like a real pain to do) is the reason I went with the Pullrite slider.

According to the owner's manual posted online, the MORryde Orbital shows a Zerk fitting for theirs. Unfortunately I haven't seen a model that replaces the pinbox on my Surveyor. Still doing my research on it though, as it might be a way to go if I can make it work.
After much research this is the setup I went with. eTrailer had best price with free shipping. Can't beat it.
Originally I wanted to swap out the box with a Reese Gooseneck box but my RV dealer (Grand Design) said they may or may not honor your warranty if something fails. On a new rig I didn't want to take the chance. Also, he sells the Reese Goosebox for $2200 where I could get it from eTrailer for $1430. Issue is they won't install what they don't sell and I need something to pull the RV home when it comes in, so back to the best made fifth wheel hitch available (IMO). I'm sure others will get the job done but the B&W is stoutly designed and manufactured.
Good choice I started with that when I got my truck and 5th wheel a couple months ago. Got lucky and found a nice used one for $300. My new 5th wheel does not have as nice of cut out and didnt want to risk it so I bought the companion manual slider for the ford puck system and swapped the head over (sold the used base for $250 so was a good deal). Love the slide, I have a sharp turn to back into my yard so it was needed and works great. Manually hitting the lever is no big deal. Plus love I can hook up at an angle no problem unlike the auto sliders.
I also have the Demco Hijacker. Its been flawless. The only down side is its really heavy. I dont know what the pullrite weighs though so they may all be heavy. I am like you and cant fit a long bed truck in my garage, but even if I could, I would not want to daily a long bed again. The Demco allows me to turn way more than I hopefully will ever need. But If I do need to, I know I can. That piece of mind made the purchase worth it to me.

My research showed the Demco Hijacker at 338 lbs. The Pullrite Superglide at only 216 lbs. I don't think I'm wrong on that, but if anyone knows something different, please correct me.

I think the spec on my Demco is more like 297.... But that's the 18K version, the 21K might be heavier... Either way, whether Demco or Pullrite, these aren't hitches that come out easily.
