Replacing / Upgrading Tail gate

Replacing / Upgrading Tail gate
While at camp and BSing to my nephew while doing some chores left the tailgate down and promptly backed into a tree 
. Stopped by my buddies body shop , he tells me the entire tailgate needs replaced. Is there any reason I can`t upgrade it to the one with the factory built in step one and any idea of costs ? To replace the current one he estimated around $900 to $1 K

Appreciate the answers , after searching various sites including Car Parts I don`t see spending that kind of money . The least expensive option seems to be around $ 2 k. Ill just keep using my $35 step ladder. I see the power lock runs around $ 120 for parts so i may do that.
