My Tailgate is rusting away, I have seen the generic ones availiable for around $79.00, and am not impressed. I would rather have a good tailgate, but I can't find one in the local junkyards.
I had been told that there is a company who makes tailgates from the original Ford tooling, but I can't find this company, does it exist???
Where is "local" for you? I usually see a few at the swap meets, some in a sad state but a few are still good. Definately go with a ford tailgate though.
I am not sure where you are form but there is a place in michigan you may be able to get a new one. I got two new doors and a new tailgate for my 79 bronco.they are called Action Body Panels. The phone number is 313-534-7500. I have used them for years. If you still cant find one I have and extra one in my garage I would sell to you for cheap. I think it is from a 77 f250, but if you want it I will hold onto it. I hope this helps.
Dennis Carpenter (www.dennis-carpenter.com) sells tailgate for 350.00 made from the original die cast. They have an on line ordering and send out catalogs...
I know what you mean about the imposters.... I got one and was one unhappy camper. 3 dents just from the shipping of it.
