If you have keyless entry depending on where you put it might allow someone into your truck. The body is aluminum so it will not stick to it, you will need to find an area on the frame to place it. If you have Ford Pass you can unlock it from your phone so no need to hide a key outside the truck, just place it in a tin foil wrap inside the truck and call it a day.
Only the obvious if someone finds it they have access to your truck. If your talking trucks with push button start, that could cause issues with locking truck depending on location. And someone will have access to your truck... do you have the keyless entry buttons on the door?
I had the same thought about a hide-a-key deal, but instead opted to install the door keypad on my XL. I've never had it on a vehicle before, but I use it constantly now.
I have the keypad on my door too. Redundancy is a good thing. Dead battery, keypad stops working, etc... Just a few weeks ago, I had a brain fart in my driveway and couldn't figure out the combo for a few minutes

I can see a dead battery, never has happened out on the job, or the town (don't forget I have 2 batteries, when I plow I carry a big backup in rear). I carry in back a 2 lead fisher male plug from a fisher plow harness that's 2' long that could plug into the plow harness behind the front plate and I could juice it up if I'm locked out. I won't say all the other stuff I carry (neatly), it's scary. I could survive most things for an extended period, and could get myself out of a lot of situations ( I was a former cub scout, never made boy scout). I do someone I loves birthdate, perfect amount of entry numbers. If I didn't I wouldn't get in.
My last truck "Lariat" it had a keypad on drivers door so I never worried about getting locked out. Even wrote it on the inside of the tailgate on the side. Now on my present ride I have an XL edition with no door keypad. Dealer wants an arm and a leg for a spare ( without FOB ) and its a "special" key blank and blah blah blah. Went to a local guy that sets up his truck on a corner lot ( been doing it for 23 years ) and it cost me $40 to get a key made with NO chip. So basically I can gain access to the inside but car won't start fine if the keys are inside Im good. Got it stashed underneath in a mag holder on the frame. It will cost me another $40 to get the chip put in the key to be able to also start the truck.

When I was 18 I lost my keys on a large site job, had them on a clip hook to my belt loop. After that I put a door key (had a square and round key back then) in a registration holder for a boat ( they are about as small as a fishing bobber). They are a small plastic holder that the top pops off and they are waterproof and float, I tie wrapped it in a hidden place under the truck. About 3 years later I was under there and it was wet inside and the key was a little rusty, it worked though and allowed me entry to the hidden square key inside. After that I drilled a small hole in the bottom of the bobber and covered the key in Vaseline. I would be under there 2 more times in my life. Now there is keyless entry.
To unlock the doors on my 2 Ford trucks, they both have keypads on the doors, or they also can be opened using Ford Pass App on my iPhone.
I keep a spare programmed switchblade key (Integrated Keyhead Transmitter) hidden inside the passenger compartment with my F150 XLT. That way if I don’t have my keys with me I can get up into the car, start it and drive it if needed.
On my keyless FOB (intelligent access keyfob) F-350 I have a spare programmed FOB in a Faraday bag which I hide inside the truck. I can open the door with the door mounted keypad or my iPhone using Ford Pass app. Then remove the hidden FOB from the Faraday bag to start the truck and drive away.
