Hi all, my truck won’t start till I hook up jumper cables & another battery. The battery was fully charged . I saw a post on checking your system with a 12 volt test light but can’t find it now. Cleaned cable grounds , but when I got to the regulator I got 12 volts at the grounding screw, is that right I don’t think so. It was getting dark & I just got done installing a carb & r&r all four tires with new rims & tires . She has been sitting for years, any input will be appreciated. Thanks
If she's been sitting for years your going to want to replace all the rubber fuel line and hose clamps for good measure. Start the motor off a can of clean fuel before you get any of what's in the old fuel tank in your carburator and then have a real mess on your hands.
Before you let her fire disconnect the coil wire and let her turn over several long bursts to properly lube her since she's sat so long. Reconnect the coil and wake her up.
Yeah I put some atf in each cylinder & let it sit for a couple of day & installed a fire ready to happen electric fuel pump to a 5 gallon can & it fired off beautifully. It’s a 390 that had less than 1k miles on a recent rebuild before parking it . Since then I hooked up original fuel system I installed 2 inline fuel filters between tank & fuel pump & changed fuel pump Filter & carburetor filter. I just installed a rebuilt 2 barrel carb & new 17 rims & tires. I’m falling in love with the truck all over again. The truck needs work but I’m retired now & it’s my mission to get it up & turn key solid. The not starting with out a jump has got me stumped, I clean grounds , pulled alternator, everything looks good .

I had issues in the past where the starter needs a rebuild because it draws too much amperage. I had to jump start my fully charged battery in order for it to fire up.
