I'm finally at the stage I'm looking at getting a tuner for my 2000 f350. I just added full force stg1s, mbpr 4 inch, and s&b intake, and a set of gauges. So....what's the best tuner these days? DP, PHP, Edge? I just want to pull the 5th wheel a little better, not burn tires off the truck, or leave a black cloud everywhere I go. Just something nice and reliable. I will use this in the Rockies. Oh, it's on the small side of 5th wheels, less than 11k loaded. Thanks.
To confirm, the new injectors are split shots? Runs on the OEM tune?
Opinions on best tuners is like bellybuttons. EHO.
My input is get a platform that allows updating tunes via emailed files. My ancient DP F5 requires pulling the chip and sending it back to the mother ship for a new tune. Happy with it fwiw.
Most everyone goes with the Hydra now. It’s a great platform with free access to PHP’s split shot tunes. It will also grow with you because you load the tunes yourself. No sending a chip off for reburn. Most tuners will write files for this platform if you decide on some custom stuff down the road.
If you’re currently running single shots then like has been mentioned, everyone has opinions on “custom” tuners.
Thanks. I wasn't worried about the tuners, just the platform. I was leaning towards the Hydra, but got distracted by the Edge CTS farkles. I think the stage 1 injectors are single shot, not split.
PHP Hydra from your choice of tuners. Your biggest issue will be the shifting points. But, there is a whole list of tunes that come with a Hydra, but you will need Titan Unlock to run the single shot injectors. There are many tuners to choose from like Gear Head, SDK, 1023, etc... Each has fans and haters.
Hydra all the way. As far as tuning.......well I have spent a lot of money trying different tuners and I have yet to be completely satisfied with on. DP in my opinion has the best transmission calibrations while the pedal is waaayyy to touchy. PHP makes nice clean power but the transmission on a tow tune never shifts when it needs too. Gearhead is good as well but once again has some issues. Nothing I have ever ran can mimic a stock running, shifting, or behaving pickup. Live tuning is a must in my opinion buuuuut where I live there isn’t anyone close so I’m kinda stuck using what I got.

Years ago I had DP smooth the pedal response so that it ramped from stockish off idle to not reaching the tune's full capabilities 'till deep in the pedal, and they nailed it. If I go to 160/x injectors, I may stay with their tuning, just because I like their transmission options so much. My only complaint has been high - but not stupid high - EGTs when towing over tall passes, and this weird "collar" that causes an odd stuttering if running WOT for an extended period of time.
Hydra it is. I'll check out tunes as I have time. Seeing as the truck is in the body shop to get a new bed, not in a major hurry. Thanks for the input.
Mark I agree with you. Jody’s(DP) has the best transmission calibration of any tuner I have tried hands down. I just wish he would write tunes for the hydra. I would be running his tunes on everything I have. Once I went to a hydra to explore different tuning I was commit to that platform.
