towing mirrors?
Can the existing hardware support the extra weight?
looking in the parts manual, I see a camper special mirror listed, anyone install these, what did you do to fix the holes left from the 2 pt mount?
How far out do they extend?
I found this thread and I thought it was ghetto neat.
For the amount of towing I anticipate, I'm not sure if I want to mount camper mirrors. But I do want to see!
I'll be pulling a 24' plus travel trailer. so the small mirrors most likely will be inadequate.
On the slip-on mirrors, I mentioned it in that thread, but I used them on a '95 F-150 I used to have. That truck had the power mirrors so there really wasn't any other reasonable option. They worked OK, but there were two things I didn't like about them.
One was that they vibrated quite a bit. Not enough to make them unusable, but enough to make them kind of annoying.
The other was kind of surprising to me, and really was a pretty big problem. I'm used to looking at my mirrors to change lanes, so when I needed to change lanes I'd look at my mirrors. Duh, right? But that meant I didn't look at the extended mirrors. It was quite a bit harder than I expected to make myself look at the extended mirror. So I'd start to change lanes because I didn't see anything in the stock mirror and then realize I wasn't getting the whole picture.
I never hit anything, but I greatly prefer the setup I have now, where there is no mirror in the stock location. This way muscle-memory doesn't shoot me in the foot.
I'm really glad you chimed in and that I found your thread. It really does seem like a great solution, have you changed/upgraded anything to it since you did that?
It's cheap, it's easy and it's removable!

But I really don't use them much anymore either. We sold the slide-in camper and bought a class C motorhome, so I don't need mirror extensions on the pickup as often as I used to. But I still have them and use them (occasionally), like when I tow my parents travel trailer for them.
Unless you frequently look in that location and this time there just happens to be something you shouldn't be looking at I'm not sure it's the same thing. But hey, give it a shot!
I have something like this but think better as mine has 2 hooks at the top to keep the mirror steady but I also butt it up to the factory mirror to help it.

I am trying to find a part that clamps to the mirror frame and slides out kind of link the link.
Here it is https://www.ebay.com/itm/Extend-A-Mi...AAAOSw9GhYbUTW
I knew there was more to this one

Here is a picture of what I use on my 02 Durango and could use them on the Ford if I wanted to.
The hook at the top fits between the glass and the rubber sweep for the glass and being they are new would hate to hurt them so soon but has not hurt them on the Durango so who knows?
You can see how long the trailer is and want I would be pulling with the pick up.
For the Ford I would like to try a set of the slip on to see just how good or bad they work.
I do like the block & flat bar type in the last link that extend the factory mirror but I don't need the mirror out that often and don't really want the blocks on there all the time and why the slip ons look good to me.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Didn't want to start a new thread for something silly like this..
How did you tie into your brake signal when hooking up a brake controller?
I'm not crazy about using the clamp splices (not sure what their called honestly I avoid them), was thinking of a piggyback terminal off the sending unit.
Not sure if I can get one to fit into it but maybe you guys have a better idea.
I don't know if this matters, I have a supposed camper special pkg but I didn't really see any connectors under the dash to plug a brake controller into directly.
I'm guessing they didn't do this back than to any of the trucks or did they?

I ran my own trailer brake wire from controller to the rear. I also ran a "hot" wire from battery to the rear so I can charge a battery on the trailer if so wired that way like camp trailers are.
As for the controller and the brake light tie in I did not do it my son did and he did kind of what you did, piggy back the wire.
IIRC he said he pulled the 2 wire out of the light switch plug, the plastic part went in the glove box so I can return it to factory if I want, and he was able to then add the right connection to the trailer brake with and use the piggy back part on the switch and plug in the trailer & truck wires, the other wire, power to the switch, was just plugged back in IIRC.
If I have to get under the dash I would have used them blue Scotch block to hook it up. Inside out of weather I don't have issues using them but not out back in all the weather they would get.
My trailer light connection is a 7 blade type as that's when my car trailer uses. I picked up a 7 blade to 4 pin, like Uhaul and others use, in case I ever pull that type of trailer connection, Durango came with one from the factory.

Best to have and not need than need and not have LOL
