1st time regear,
Backlash spec for my F350 is 11 to 16. The backlash on all ring gear teeth is .011 to .013 except for 4 teeth in a row are .010 (PIC), Opinions? I've also included a pic of the gear pattern, opinions? Thanks
I'm concerned if I shim the Carrier over I will loose to much backlash, I'm already at .010in four places.
Yep, you're on the right track. Set backlash, then run pattern. Adjust pinion only. If pattern is good and backlash is in spec you're set. If for some reason backlash falls out of spec you'll have to shim carrier, but you can wind up chasing your tail (so hopefully you find a happy medium)
Typically moving just the pinion a little won't change backlash MUCH but as usual ALL DISCLAIMERS, YMMV etc apply
But I'm personally not thrilled with that pattern so I'd bump the pinion toward the carrier c/l a bit and see if you can get your contact patch closer to the roots
Thanks 4 the input WWR, I don't want to put you on the spot...but how much more shim would you slip under the pinion head. I realize its hit or miss. Thanks
Thanks 4 your time and input WWR. I may not get to it today and its going to be tough working under my truck with my Easter bonnet on. Happy Easter to ya!
