Interesting points on 5th wheel prep. The reason we are thinking of adding is because my in laws are looking at 5th wheels, and when we get to our camp site before them we like to try to help them set up. As a result, I’d only be dragging a 5th from storage to camp site.
lots more to think about with a super duty, coming from the half-ton world
Some time ago, I went from a half ton to a 3/4. At the time, I thought it was more than I would ever need. I don't replace vehicles very often, but as time went on, that 3/4 ton just isn't enough. My 3/4 ton is now way over loaded - even before I connect the trailer! While a 350 SRW may be sufficient for my current needs, learning from my last situation, I'm just going straight to a 450 this time.
Transferring a fifth wheel hitch from one vehicle to another can be a pain in the butt, depending on the hitch. I sure as heck wouldn't be buying a fifth wheel hitch just to help people out. They can be quite expensive. On the other hand, if they have a Reese Goosebox, then all you need in your truck (or to transfer) is the gooseball, which is a trivial thing to install/move.
I ordered a 2017 CCLB F350 Lariat Value and have a few comments on it and the comments previously from other here.
If you are considering a fifth wheel, then a F350 for more payload is important. My 6.2L engine truck is 4000lbs payload with 11,500 GVWR. The F250 is stunted by the lower GVWR of 10000lbs. and is not the best choice for a fifth wheel. Some will tow the truck being over the GVWR of 10000lbs but that is not a good practice in my opinion.
Others have talked about the LED lights. It is cool. I did not order them because I drive during the day and was just an added cost. In Canada, they can be added to the Value Package but in the US, must have the Ultimate Package. So the option requires the added cost of the Ultimate Package and then the added cost for the LED lights. Seems like an expensive way to get LED lights no matter how cool they might be.
Again in Canada, I was able to add the power running boards but in the US, again must have the Ultimate Package. I love them.
Your list does not mention the Bucket seats/Console. I did add that option. I love it.
I also added the inner splash guards, dual batteries, HD alternator, Camera Package, Remote Start, Navigation but nothing that was vital. Just what I wanted.
You have the skid plates. Inexpensive option but not really necessary and takes away from payload.
I also added the camper package, upfitter switches like you.
I am sure that the truck you recieve will be a nice truck. But the choice of F250 or F350 is an important one. The real question with that is what are you using it for. If for a TT then 250 should be fine. But if you want a fifth wheel, it is very important to have a higher GVWR which increases your payload for the pin weight.
One piece of advice. When I ordered my truck, I went thru the fleet manager as they deal with trucks all the time. Regular salesmen are not knowledgable when it comes to the details of the trucks.
Regarding PCO offers. There is not a lot of inventory right now. There is manufacturer cutbacks due to a shortage of chips. It would appear that FORD is not marketing with PCO's as they can sell at a premium due to the lack of inventory. There are lots of threads here that speak how to try to get one.
I am sure you will enjoy your new truck when you get it.
Circling back to the LED's. You can not get the Quad Beam LED with the Black Appearance Package but its does come with LED'S not halogens. Just wanted to clarify for those who consider LED's a must have.
The Lariat Ultimate package is required to add the LED option. So you have the cost of both the ultimate package and the LED lights. The crew cab is required to add the ultimate package. Some desirable options get very expensive to add.
You're correct! I'd never configured a Lariat without the Ultimate package. And just the same, I'd never configured one that wasn't a crew cab.
Hi all, been lurking/reading for a while. I’m getting ready to order a ‘22 Lariat spec’d roughly below. Obviously, #1 priority now is finding a PCO. However, any tips or things to be aware of, coming from a 2015 F150?
This will be our tow rig/camping vehicle. Will become a dd when we sell the f150 in a few years but my wife and I are trading her jeep on the new truck.
I just ordered a 22 this morning. Received a PCO yesterday for $2k off, however, the fine print says it will only apply towards 2019, 2020, 2021 models and expires July 06, 2021. New truck isn't expected to arrive until August at the earliest. I would imagine this will be the issue with all the PCO's coming out right now.

I don't think LEDs are part of the Black Appearance Package. The quad beams are still an option, and with this package they would have special black surrounds. Otherwise you'll still get halogens with this package.
Circling back for all involved. We have a TT and will stick with bumper pulls for the foreseeable future. In laws are looking at half-ton towable 5ers, around 9500 gvwr on the couple they’re looking at. Reese goosebox is on the radar for sure.
I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the 250, then got the PCO mailer 3 days later. If the 6/4 start date for KTP holds we have a Lloyd and Mary chance of using it. I have a good priority code, and my dealer is top notch. He is a buddy from our local Mustang scene, and the GM of the dealership his grandfather started. Didn’t talk to sales staff once, just went thru him. I did add cab marker lights and dual battery at his guidance. If I’m around 2700-2800 payload I’ll be fine, since we don’t have plans to upgrade our 1 year old Jayco any time soon and am coming out ahead of my current F150. Appreciate all the tips and advice and if anyone needs a great dealer happy to pass along his information.
edit: also splurged on the heated wheel, but didn’t spring for ultimate/led or the UTT cameras. If the cameras were a stand along option without pro trailer I’d have done it.

Payload should be close to your expected numbers with the 7.3l.
Did you get the Lariat value package, is that why you skipped the LED's? I don't think the current PCO applies to 2022 MY. Maybe they will issue new offers before yours lands that do include the 2022.
Edit: I guess the question is, did you stick to your original build from your first post?

yep it’s pretty much the same including value package with the 2 small additions.
Would you happen to know if the LED Headlights and Taillights are included with the Lariat Ultimate & Black Appearance packages combined? I ordered a '22 F-250 with these two packages and was told they include the LED lights all around but I see the ordering guide shows an order code of 59Q needs to be added. I am hoping it comes the way I expect. Thanks!

Just looked on the B&P page and on the black appearance package you get LED lights even without the ultimate package.
You don't buy a truck for your current camper you buy it for your next camper 🙂. It's always cheaper to buy once so the f350 might be the better buy. Don't ask me how I know...
amen! If he doesn’t tell you, you can ask me lol. We bought an f250 and went shopping for a bigger trailer. 3 weeks later I was ordering an f350
