I'm looking for some ideas in how to fix the rust around the top of the cab on my 79 f100 father and son project. The PO removed the passenger side drip rails, which is fine with me. This truck is not going to be a car show piece, just a solid weekend cruiser. There is a bunch of rust up top and I would like an option on the fix. Does it look like the glass has to be pulled to fix it or can it be fixed with out? Please tell me the top isn't about to fly off and It can be saved? Sorry for all the questions and thanks! Reason: More questions
Get a new cab, that is not worth the time to fix. That cab is gone and the internal damage is going to be severe especially down the A pillars and the rear cab.
I don't know what shape the floors or cab mounts or other areas are in but if anything like that then yes different cab is needed.
I say this because it would take way too much work to repair it.
Now if the rest is in really good shape, check it over really really good, then maybe just a roof swap / graph would be the way to go.
On the good roof, cut the A pillars as close to the dash as you can and as low in the rear glass opening as you can this way it should give you a lot to play with on making cuts to find good metal on your truck.
But to find a good roof then I would think the rest of that cab to be in good shape also but maybe not, the shipping on just the roof maybe as much as a whole cab.

Oh if you do plan on fixing that yes the glass, front & rear, need to be pulled.
well i think i will be doing a cab swap. i found one within 150 miles from me that happens to be the same color too. both same years! now on to what all would be involved in swapping the cabs? becides removing the front clip, cab bolts, steering column. i would probably be swapping everything from under the dash to my new cab. shouldnt be too hard im guessing
