Cab corner woes

I had some rust bubbling up on my driversode cab corner of my ext cab and when i got to messing around with it it became a hole.. So i cleaned it up, and put fiverglass over it and primed and spot putty and all that to it. Well the next morning it started to turn a little brown so i finished smoothing it out a bit and then the next day it was brown again. So im guessing i didnt get all the rust out of it.

Heres the thing. When i knocked out the hole their was a layer of like rubber and then anothe layer of metal. That inner layer of metal is whats rusting. How do i go about fixing this? Replace the cab corner? Is their an easier wayto fix it? Maybe cut it out or what?

Ive got some pics of it that ill post tomorrow.

You have to cut out ALL of the rust otherwise it will go right through the fiberglass filler. You better just replace the cab corners.

Glass is a temp fix at best. I would just get a replacement panel and do it once adn not have to do it again.

I didn't want to tackle this for my first try at rust repair (I'll be doing my floor boards later), took it to a local body shop (after looking for one that does rust repair), he charged me $200 after I took the bed off myself. I think he did a fantastic job and would highly recommend him to anybody.

Its pretty straigh forward, You need a good cut off wheel and a mig welder. Work looks good tho. Treat it with POR 15 in the jam and on the outside adn it wont come back.

Looks nice, did your guy cut out the rust that was at the bottom corner of the door jamb, or what did he do there? I may have missed that in the pictures.

Also, did he mention to you if he treated the backside of where he welded the patch in, and what did he use?

Yes, he did. And he replaced it with fresh metal. No pictures of that.

If i buy the cab corner then is that just the outside part? Because like i said the inside panel (im guessing the wall inside the cab) is rusted bad too

Yes, as you can see in the picture. There are some interior pieces available, although I'm not sure where. My guy said, that if I needed ant for the inside, that he would fabricate them himself.

The inside piece is very easy to fabricate and it doesnt have to look as pretty as the outside. I would simply patch it some flat stock and call it a day.
