I want to replace the current rear bumper on my 73 F100, see the attached picture. I have also included photos of the bumper brackets that are currently installed. I want to install an original style chrome bumper that matches the front. From the information I have seen the brackets I currently have may not work on an original style bumper. Any thoughts or comments on the situation are appreciated.
I personally think these bumper brackets are pretty weak specialy considering these bumpers are pretty heavy duty. But I also see mone worked since 1976 on my truck.
Yes you now have a step style rear bumper and the brackets will NOT work to put a sport/contour rear bumper on your truck. Without some heavy modification. AND the sport/contour rear bumper brackets are almost impossible to find. The thread below talks about it with pics.
What you are looking for. You need to locate the outer support bracket also. They are quite thick and have some weird twist angles to support the outer edge of the contour bumper. You can source the contour bumper brackets off a 78/79 bronco also. Of course with the contour bumper.
I think from earlier threads that the ebay brackets may be for a bumpside and not fit a dentside correctly. Buyer beware. May be best to buy from one of the people that sell original on FT marketplace. JMO
I can't offer an answer to your question but I can say that I'm actually looking to replace the aftermarket rear bumper on my 1979 F-150 with exactly the OEM painted step bumper that you're removing from yours. Yours looks to be straight and clean - you have a buyer in me once you're ready to offload it!
Shipping from MA to OR might be a little pricey due to its size. But ha ya never know. Bradley have you joined the FTE Oregon chapter and asked in state to your fellow FTE members? Oregon chapter link https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum190/
