Hello. I have a 1977 F150 Custom 4x4 Styleside. Im getting rid of my old rear step bumper and putting on the factory style non-step bumper. My catalog shows the bumper brackets to be different for these two bumpers. Does anyone know where i could find the correct ones for my new bumper?
I found some for sale but they are listed as being for 72 and earlier trucks. They look very similar however to the illustration in my catalog for the 73-79. Does anyone know if they're different? I figure my luck, they are.
Well, i was just informed that pre 73 brackets would not work so im kinda afraid to buy them. So you used Bronco ones huh? Were there any modifications that you had to do to make them work? Also, where did you find them? The picture you've shown is precisely how i want mine to look so thanks alot for the help!
I dont know why they would be all that different, I mean the same basic hardware is there. The biggest difference would be where the bolt holes for the frame line up on the bumper and the frame. There could be an issue in the area where the bracket clears the undersside of the bed, and the bumper might sit too low, but this is easy to address.
Since the truck you are looking at is a 75 4x4, it has a narrower frame than the Bronco, F100, F150, 2wd F250 / 350 or 78/9 Fseries.
What I did was added a small piece of material to the bracket to make the bracket move in yet still retain the factory bumper hardware. Now it can adjust enough to meet the frame of the narrow truck, and bolt like a factory application.
Perhaps you are looking for a 100% factory correct look, but you would be hard pressed to even notice that my brackets are for a Bronco, and not for this truck.
I dont think your problem is all that difficult to remedy.

Nah, im a loooong way from so cal. Im in Georgia.
It does'nt really have to be 100% correct to suit me, I just though that surely I could find the right brackets. But from what I understand, most of these trucks came with the step bumper so they're kinda hard to find. I would gladly use the bronco ones though if I knew where to find some.
The outer brackets from the Bronco will work perfectly but the inners you will have to weld on extensions to bolt on to the frame. I did the same thing. The inners are too short to reach the truck frame so I used a plasma to to square off the bracket then took stainless stock and welded them together. Worked perfectly..
