Leaking coolant problem solving help
So I’ve had various issues with leaking coolant over the last few months. Did a pressure test and found the oil cooler L hose was dripping a little bit in addition to both sides of the radiator. Classic eh?
Removed the oil cooler and converted to remote filter. Replace radiator. Replaced upper radiator hose idled it till it got up to temp and nothing leaked.
wife’s car didn’t start the next day at 5am so she took the truck 10 miles across town. When she got back it was steamin, reservoir was totally empty 😲🤬.
went back to pressure testing and it’s all dry around the block. But started drippin real good from right below the belt tensioner. Can’t see exactly up there though.
she said the temp needled isn’t get out of the normal zone, but that’s cuz there was no fluid in there I assume.
what I’m wondering is, how much do-do 😡😫 am I in with it not having coolant in it? Assuming the water pump needs to be replaced cuz it cracked. But I would rather not get in there and learn the block it cracked beneath it.
debating just sellin the darn thing.
that makes my heart smile. Haha
it wasn’t to far or long or hauling anything just didn’t know.
lookin to order parts. Any idea what gasket(s) I’ll need? Looks like a plate to block or pump to plate 🤷🏻♂️
also I’m planning to replace fan clutch at the same time. Anything else in there I should swap out? Timing chain or anything?
I’m about a year into this fixing things, buying tools adventure so I’ve stil got tons to learn. Adjusting timing would be to much for me at this point. So I would rather avoid the chain but I know if it goes, the whole trucks gone.
You'll want both gaskets. Pump to plate and plate to block. Buy some RTV to seal up the gaskets. The gaskets are huge and can be tricky to line up. Use some dowels or studs in the holes on the engine to line it all up. Youtube is your friend. Pulling the radiator will give you some more room to work.
