My grandson have an odd 302 in a 1981 f150 that originally was a 300 six. It has no casting number.and I know where to look. He put a edelbrock 4v manifold on it. With it in place it leaves the exhaust cross over ports open. The heads have no visible casting number. It does have a Ford emblem and cp in the casting and a date code 4f11 assuming 1984 June 11.
Called Edelbrock and talked to a tech and he said they had seen this before and don’t make a manifold that will work.
anybody know what this is. Or seen it before.
I'm not sure and it has been a really long time since I worked on one but I think that if the engine is a 255 that crossover port might be different. Those engines look very similar to a 302 but they have an oval shaped intake port.
ok took the intake off. those holes are blind they go no where. So we are putting the edelbrock manifold back on. It is not a 255. There are no casting marks in the valley indicating the size of the engnie. There is XXX cast mark up near the deck. .
Those blind holes must be Ford factory tooling related because lots of their heads have them including the set of Boss 302 heads I was working on today. Totally different casting...same holes. It isn't unusual to see a 5.0 or 302 block that doesn't say so in the valley.
Could be a euro spec 302..... they were used in a landrover type vehicle back in the 80's IIRR...a good friend bought one (vehicle) in the US thinking he could get parts for it...oh what a nightmare...but it was good engine!
Casting numbers on the late model heads are on the bottom side of one of the center intake ports, with the intake off you should be able to see them with a mirror. There may also be a capital letter cast into an outside corner of the head just below the valve cover rail.
