Does the new heater design have this issue though? I thought it was just the old design the OP has removed that had this concern.

So the Excursion just threw a P1316 powertrain code. Only real symptom is a slightly rough idle. As far as I can tell, this code is very generic relating to the IDM, wiring, or injectors. I checked the VC connectors and they seem to be fine. Any ideas where to start trouble shooting? I do have torque pro to monitor a few things.

I would recommend a buzz test using FORScan or FORScan Lite. It will extract any specific IDM codes related to the general P1316. Torque Pro is not as helpful for serious diagnostics IMHO.

FORScan Lite calls the buzz test KOEO Injector Electrical Self Test.

Aha! That's the one. I knew there was a different app that did buzz tests but couldn't remember the name. I'll get that done this afternoon.

With just one cylinder affected, it's not likely the IDM is at fault. More likely a wiring issue.

If you think the UVCH is ok - recently checked visually under the valve covers, I'd probe the coil wires for cylinder #2 from the 42 pin connector. If good, probe from the IDM connector.

Seems like an UVCH is loose though - might be worth a check.

Although the engine wasn't warm, a contribution test also points to cylinder #2. The VC plug and connector look fine; so it looks like I need to pull the VC. If the wiring looks good, I'll swap the solenoid to another cylinder and see if the issue follows.

Probed all 8 injectors:
1 - 3.8
2 - open
3 - 3.8
4 - 3.6
5 - 3.8
6 - 3.6
7 - 4.1
8 - 3.4

I'd say I have a problem with #2.

I pulled the VC and found the UVCH loose; reconnected it and got 3.5 ohms at the harness. I cleared the codes and re-ran the buzz test. No more codes. Unfortunately I got rained out. Currently waiting for a break to button it up.

Alright you found it. Do you want to do the 50 cent mod to lock the harness to the gasket pass-through connector?

Apparently not. I've already buttoned it back up. 😆 If it happens again I'll have to do that.

Are the "spindle" bearings in the back of the unit bearings replaceable? My driver's axle shaft is flopping around.
