The threaded cup at the end has to be loosened from the male threaded part. A pipe wrench works taking care not to bugger it up. Grease build up that has hardened on the inside is usually preventing it from moving. Brake clean can help soften that build up too.
The d/s end splines are catching on the lip/seal that is in the end of the threaded on end cap. X2 carefully loosen it (just be careful to not squeeze it to hard), it is fairly thin metal. Elec/duct tape protection. Large Channel locks (adjustable pliers) with light squeeze pressure and steady pressure in the loosening direction and a rap/tap with a rubber mallet. Yes spray brake cleaner or worse case maybe a VERY LITTLE propane torch heat on the cap to loosen up the gunk. Once its loose thread it off and then it should slide apart. FYI they are fine threads on the assembly. Worse case just go to town and just yank it apart. Probably a good way to tear the seal and I believe the seal is built in the end cap? Aviation cannon plug (electrical plug) pliers have rubber over laid jaws with great gripping power.
