I did a search and did not see a thread on this, so here goes:
My truck has the original headlights and after 20 years the bezels are in pretty bad shape (Cloudy). I know that they can be improved with one of those headlight restoration kits, but I was thinking about going to LED's. Is there a replacement headlight system that is preferred by most of you? Thanks in advance for any info.
Eagle eyes 02+ clear housings are top notch. Paired with an upgraded wiring harness to put more juice to the bulbs, they are a great option. I have plenty of light down road where it's needed. Drop in LEDs not so much. They look brighter but they will scatter light with poor cut off and blind oncoming drivers. For LED, you'd be better suited with housings designed for LED. If set on LED, consider sealed beam housings with LED TruckLites or similar: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...tes-led-s.html
I switched mine to morimotos. Not DOT legal but bright as hell. I live out in the middle of nowhere so not too worried. Pricey and a lot of work... basically did the 2005 headlight conversion and then converted those lights.
I know you said you were looking at different lights but if you decide to fix yours, do what I did. Clean good with wax and grease remover. Sand them with 800 grit sandpaper wet. Mask them up. Clean again. You can go to an auto parts store that mixes and sells paint. They should have a rattle can of clear spray paint that is two part urethane. When you are ready to paint you puncture the curing part and spray. Spray light coats letting it tack up between coats. If I remember it was around $30 for the can. Enough to do several cars. I did my Pontiac Vibe over a year ago and still look like new.

I have the stock type clear lens fixtures in the wife's 2000 Excursion and upgraded my 2000 F350 with the 05 style. Then I installed LED bulbs in both and couldn't be happier...way more brighter light in front. The LED bulbs use less power so I would assume easier on the stock wiring.

For now I'm just thinking about doing like you did your 2000 Excursion. Put in some LED bulbs. What is your source and do they seem of good quality? Do they have cooling fans like I have seen in some? Is there a wiring harness needed?

Thanks!
They have been working well for several years now. Do not get the units with the cooling fans! Folks have good things to say about the Beamtech bulbs and I went with a similar unit like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/IRONWALLS-H...EAAOSw9bZfI8P5 The key is to stay around a 6,000K-6,500K for a good white light. Also, stay away from the bulbs that have three or more sides. You want a bulb that has 2 opposing sides that best mimic the wire that lights the stock halogen bulbs. Pay attention to installation as this is why there are alot of folks that aren't happy with the outcome. You may have to clock the fixtures, though I didn't have to...purdy much plug and play. The bulb should have the socket to accept from your stock harness. You can restore your headlight housings, but for under $100 you can get new ones. The older units are a bit more trouble to remove and install compared to the newer 05 housings.

I've seen mention of that 2005 conversion quite a bit on this site. I'll look around and see if I can find it. I think I read something about cutting metal away to do that conversion and I don't think I want to do that to my truck. Thanks

You can buy them already cut down...that's what's on the wife's Excursion. After it came, I saw how easy it was to cut, so that's what's on my F350...I've done several of them now...really not that hard...
