Thanks for all the answers.
For the gauge, I'm planning on getting a glowshift gauge. It comes with a 1/8”-27 npt thread on the sensor.
Most of what I've seen in my research has said to use the test port. How do I find it and what is the thread size.
Trans codes - VSS is fine as far as I can tell. No issues with the speedometer. I haven't pulled codes, but I can turn the truck off and on and the "limp mode" resets and goes away. The more I drive it, the less it happens. I assumed it was just old fluid causing issues (we all know how old service trucks are abused). When I bought the truck it was sitting on undersized tires all around (225/65/16 instead of 235/85/16), I don't know if that's hurt the transmission any, but 70 mph indicated was 55 mph actual.

I used AutoMeter ATM-3357, it is a 1/8 in NPT sender. It comes with a 3/8 in. NPT adapter/fitting and a 1/2 in. NPT adapter/fitting.
Along with the temperature gauge.

That is the same thread as the test port.

Subford posted a photo, above. It is on the driver's side of the trans, towards the front, and just above the pan. It has a black hex head plug in it from the factory.

That means there are codes stored.

That won't hurt the trans at all.

Thanks Mark! I have a OBD-2 and a Ford OBD1 scanner, I'll check when I'm home and see what comes up.
