E4OD vs. 4R100

Does anyone know the pros & cons of the E4OD, and the 4R100 tranys? I'm looking for relyability, and street performance in a 1/2 ton truck. Which has better aftermarket support as far as performance parts, electronics, and so forth. Also, is there anything BAD that I'd need to be on the lookout for? Thanks

The 4R100 replaced the E4OD in 1999 as a mid-year product change-over..

Both are pretty good, however, the greater question is what year truck you're working with.

You can't get any better in a half ton, remember these are the same trannies they put behind the V10's, 460's and diesels. I have over 200K on mine (E4OD) and it still works great. the early E4OD's have their problems but they were pretty much worked out by the mid 90's. The only con I have, or should say had, with mine was no drain plug in the pan. A 24qt Mag Hytec pan remedied that.

I would consider a custom built 4r70 or whatever your's is instead of changing.
You will get what your looking for without any hassles.
Give LEVEL 10 in Hamburg, N.J. a call. They did mine HD for large GCW towing.

Thanx. I guess I shoulda told the whole story. I have a '98 flareside stx w/ 4.6 & 4R70. I bought the truck new, and it currently has around 345,000 miles on it. Needless to say, the old boy is TIRED, but its like a timex. Ford wouldn't let me have the bigger engine & trany w/ the beautiful stx package. So now is the time for a refresh, and an upgrade to what I wanted in the first place. So I'm looking for a rolled Lightning, or Navigator. Or worst case, just a truck w/ a 5.4 & 4R100.
