New sensor installed

So, the new sensor from motocraft came in and I installed it..:::everything seems to be working fine now. Edge was reading 78 degrees this morning (Florida) and got up to about 152 driving 20 minutes to school.

I believe the sensor I got from autozone was meant to be a water temperature sensor? They are both thermistors though so I’m not sure if there is a difference. I’ll upload a photo of the autozone sensor, my edge screen, and the part number for the motocraft eot that fixed the issue.

thanks for all the help everyone!

Perhaps you had the wrong sensor installed, but the knock off sensors are known for being of very poor quality, especially with the 7.3L.

Some of the knock offs are going through great lengths to look as genuine as possible: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...are-clues.html

Most people monitor EOT as a method of seeing internal engine temperature and this is considered a good practice.
I know mine wont. L99 ZF6.

That is correct, I believe the ability to monitor ECT on the ZF6 was brought in for the 2001 MY (maybe 2002) when the HP went up on the ZF6 equipped trucks to compete with other brands. My 2000 does not have the ability to monitor ECT either, but EOT works just fine for my use.

I think another problem is that the aftermarket companies don't get values correct. Many of the temp sensor / sending units are physically the same with the same 2 pin plug but the ohm values are different to match the different systems.

I needed a coolant sensor and tried 2 different brands from the Irish store before the Motorcraft part was shipped in. The fit and finish was fine and the ohm values for both the store brands was almost identical and would likely have worked in a different vehicle or system but was 10x more ohms than the motorcraft part for our cooling system. If the companies that made them had researched more carefully they would have a the right ohm value and I would still be using the first one I took home.

Good point and a detail that I may have overlooked in the past Paul. I simply put them in the "not unless I have to" category when considering knock off sensors. Even then, when I have to install sub-par parts, I like to have a course of action to replace them with OEM quality or better parts in the near future.
