Hello I need a little help i am wanting to change out the gear oil and I’m not sure if I need the additive plus I’m curious what kind of rear end I have any info will be appreciated thanks and have a good day
You didn't give any info on your truck. Your profile indicates you have a 2000 F250. Most likely you have a 10.5" Sterling rear axle. What does your owner' manual say about adding the friction modifier? What does the 75w140 full synthetic gear lube bottle say? Or the manufacturer of the gear lube website?

On Page 34 of the of the Scheduled Maintenance Guide for your 2000 F250 it says this
if the axle was filled with 75W140 synthetic gear lubricant meeting Ford specification WSL-M2C192-A, part number F1TZ-19580-B or equivalent. Add four ounces of additive friction modifier C8AZ-19B546-A (EST-M2C118-A) or equivalent for complete refill of Traction-Lok rear axles. The rear axle lubricant should be changed anytime the axle has been submerged in water.
My suggestion would be too put in 75w-140 Amsoil, I have replaced my rear diff fluid 3 times on my 2011 F350 6.7 4x4 and have not needed to add any friction modifier. I also do a lot of heavy hauling across the country from AZ to NY and FL.
You need to look at the door tag at the axle ID number to tell you if it's a Positrac, this is the only axle that needs the friction modifier. The standard or open differential does not need the modifier, can you add it, sure won't hurt a thing but why spend money if you don't need to.

If you look at the photo of the tag he posted, it tells you it is a 4L10, i.e., 4.10 limited slip rear end. No need to check the door.
If it were an open rear end, it would have been 4.10 on the tag.
