I just bought this truck with a 302 for $200, so it's not like I'm going to lose money on it. The problem is that it will only run at WOT or goosing it to WOT alot. As soon as you take your foot off the gas, it dies.
The other thing is that it runs VERY rich while your doing this, the fumes starting to burn my eyes.. Wasn't burning any oil.
Guys have any idea what it could be? I'm thinking TPS, idle air control motor, TFI, or fuel pressure regulator.
Id start with checking the fuel pressure . Usually when an engine runs that rich its getting way too much fuel & the fuel pressure regulator is often the cause . Depending on how long its been running that way things like the plugs , O2 Sensor may need replacing also .

It hasn't been run much. They said it use to go a few blocks, then die. Wait an hour or so, and it'd do it again. When I checked it out, it wouldn't slow idle at all.
I'll have to check the fuel pressure when i get it to my house tuesday. Whats a good range?

I was thinking that for a little while, but decided that wouldn't be likely considering that when it ran, it didn't miss, it ran VERY rich.. Generally timing won't make it run that rich..
102,000 miles on it.. It's easy to tell if the jenctors are gone, has to hold the pressure after the fuel pump is off. Alot of people are saying the TPS also.. Lots of stuff to check out. Just got a scanner for the computer tonight, so I'll be ready for it when I get it.
First, check for a large vacuum leak. If OK,
Check fuel pressure - gauge should go to around 38 psi and HOLD when you turn key on (engine off). If it immediately leaks off, remove vacuum line from pressure regulator. If fuel is coming from vacuum port, regulator is bad. If not, suspect injector staying open (injector stuck or wire grounded) NOTE: Use a quality gauge set for this test - If regulator is stuck closed, pressure can exceed 100 psi and burst test hose.
Let me know how this turns out.
