Hello all. I am new to this forum. I have 1975 Ford F100 302 Automatic 2wd. I was chasi mg down an issue I was having with the shifting after acquiring it. I have traced the problem to the linkage. I think I have fixed that problem (bent rod), but now can’t get the dang thing back together... I get stuck when trying to connect the shift tube (notched) to the arm that sticks out of the side of the column. I think I am not putting the spring in the right spot... can anyone shed some light here? I’m stumped. I’ve tried everything.
Many thanks in advance! This way Or this way... or neither
thank you for the diagram. I have seen this, but it is a little unclear exactly where the spring goes at the bottom of the shift tube. Could you clear that up for me?
I was afraid you would say that... I have been trying to put the column back together this way with no luck... any tips? I feel like I’m trying to do it in the wrong order.
That rod connects to the column selector at the bottom of the column with what looks like a one way push pin, just curious how folks are getting those apart, looks like that needs to happen under the truck otherwise you cant fish the column out of the truck...
jakeharp, there is a rubber bushing w/metal insulator that goes inside of gear shift arm (@ lower column). The transmission shift rod is "pressed" into it.
I had to destroy that bushing in order to separate the rod from bushing when I went to rebuild my column. The good news is Mac's sells the replacement part (48-37940) for $ 10.00.

What exactly is the problem your running into for reassembly ?
