Thanks for posting that. I've always heard about the possibility of the Fed's going after them... Not a rumor anymore.

This isn't going to go away, owners may get a visit. Race cars with a VIN will also be targeted, this one runs deep and wide that will destroy the after market community if not stopped with the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act (RPM Act).

The EPA targeting companies isn't a new thing. It's been going on for 3 or 4 years now! I think H&S was one of the first targeted and just shutdown the company. Then PPEI was hit and agreed to do only Emissions system intact tuning to settle with the EPA. Now a new story appears in the news and everyone acts like this is a new thing. People complaining about diesel truck emissions should research the cargo container ships that pass by us every day all day long. Or the fact we shutdown almost all our coal power plants while the rest of the world keeps adding more. And now we are making graveyards for wind turbine blades that won't ever break down. Don't get me started on the new Green Deal

I dont like any emissions crap but I really hate the smell of diesel trucks. Its one thing to sit in the cab and Happy happy but get in the family car and follow one going up a hill and you would not be a fan. I particularity hate the EGR crap. With the DEF and DPF why would you need the EGR. That makes no sense to me.
I was reading about the EZ Link story and they may go after the people who got tunes for there trucks. They kind of danced around the subject. They mentioned Texas in a big way. Its one thing to get more power I love that but diesel exhaust just sucks to smell. It may be the LSDF.
I am not a tree huger. I hate trees. They get in the way sometimes. I also don't believe in global warming. (big load of crap) I just don't like stinky trucks.

From what I've read, it's the pilot injection that makes them have a heavy smelling exhaust smell. I hear you on the strong smell Bone. I was on the expressway going home one day and had a 1st gen Dodge I was approaching and passed, but man, did that *****ing truck stink to the high heavens. WTF... I run across many modern deleted trucks but did not seem to smell as bad. I had a side by the road meeting with a guy I know who also works in the city where I do. He has a 6.0. I got out of the patrol car and we were talking by my car with his truck in front of us. Man, did that *****er stink! So yeah, I agree with how strong our trucks smell. Down the road, I want to look into a methanol injection system for my truck. I'd want to take it to a local shop with a dyno to dial in the system so it doesn't cool off the engine too much which would be bad for regens.

A friend of mine literally just had his 14 deleted with the EGR cooler still on. I assume that because the shop only charged him $300 to do it. I'll assume he bought his own parts like the delete pipe. They are only programming the truck with a 75 hp tow tune. It has 125k miles. It was at the shop yesterday when he called me. I'm sure he'll rave about the sound and power. But he's also the kind of guy who wants his truck jacked up as he was talking about a 6 inch lift and bigger tires. I forgot to mention to him about EZ Lynk and their newfound problems. I still have to ask and see what software they used.

Yes I have. It stinks as well. You can also see a light plume of black smoke come out of their tail pipes. I realized that when I started to notice that every modern gas vehicle has black tail pipe tips. Then i really started to pay attention.

And various manufactures of gasoline engines have different smells, some worse to be behind than others like GM and Kia.

I've seen my 2.7L EB smoke briefly (can see it in the morning sun) a few times on a cold morning at startup. The TGDI seem to be dirty engines when cold. I run Chevron 93 fuel or whatever good premium I can find if traveling. I also suspect some (probably many) of these gas smoke cases are folks not understanding how to accelerate a turbocharged vehicle now that turbos are bolted to a lot of various size engines.

The pilot injection diesel is a rough smell in direct contact. If you want a really strong smell (you don't, it's terrible), have the problem I had with active/static regenerations with purpleish smoke as soon as a regeneration started until EGT4 was > 950°F and with a stuck open DEF injector. I can only describe that as a sharp diesel/ammonia type smell.
