I test drove a new 81 with the 255 V8 and the overdrive. I am not sure of the gearing but I shifted to 4th (o?d ) at 60 and put the pedal to the floor with a flat 3 mile straight stretch ahead. At the end of 3 miles it was still going 60. What a pig.
My 72 F-250 has 3.73s with a 300 and T-18 4 speed. It has plenty of power and gets around 14, 15 1/2 if I baby it.

Got that right!!!! That 255 was even a worse pig than the 300-6. But, that is what happens with my friends 81. I felt pretty helpless driving it on the highway. And that is where I am the most.
