EGR Delete Issues
EGR Delete Issues
Hello, I've just deleted my EGR because I had everything apart for other issues. After deleting, and turning the EGR function off with my SCT programmer, the truck still throws 2 codes, p0403 and p0405. The EGR is currently unplugged, with a blank off cover where it used to be. Before the delete, it would throw p0405 occasionally, even after cleaning the valve, and was hoping this would take care of it. I see a lot of debate on whether reinstalling the EGR would clear my issues, but can't seem to find any definitive answers. If reinstalling it does not work, would I have to get a custom tune for my programmer, and would I have to update my programmer to load it? If so, I'd lose the option to turn off the EGR from the programmer.
Thanks
Thanks
Modifications: Blue Fuel Spring, Banks Ram Air system, 4" straight pipe, SCT Performance Tune, EGR Delete, No head studs (under the impression they were done when buying, recently found out they weren't), Oil Cooler, STC Fitting, one or two more I probably forgot

As far as what I'm understanding you can't get EGR Delete program anymore they kind of outlawed them. Been cracking down hard in some states. I have a 2004.5 with a welded delete and egr still in place. I get a soft code with no wrench light. But not sure how 5's and up work.

If I remember correctly, if you have an older scanner that hasn't been updated after a certain date it will work. But once the programmer has been updated with the latest version it won't work no more. So if you have one that will do the delete program don't update. Some of the other guys on hear would have more detail on it. Maybe they'll chime in.

Plug the EGR back in to the wiring connector Not connected it will mess with your cooling fan operation

into the left over hold in the intake. It does not do any thing other than make the PCM happy that it "sees" the valve. If you don't want
to stick in in the hole then zip tie it down and place it on top of the valley somewhere safe.
The way the tune works is that it just wipes out the EGR control table. With the table gone the PCM does not request it to open at any time.
How ever it still needs to see it in the electrical circuit during the readiness check. This is what I was told on how it works. Could be mistaken.
But the codes do go away.
Jack I am going to high jack the thread for a question or two.
Are you planing on a delete or just a pluged cooler/dead valve DELETE?
I am going to put a BPD cooler back in mine and sense I have an older tuner
I will run with the system turned off. That way when things go south (California rules)
here I can just turn the stupid thing on and be done with it.
You said and I forgot. What harness tape is the better stuff?

I’m using the stainless core plugs at the up pipe and made a stainless blocking plate at the cooler to intake manifold connection.
I have a video for making the plate (shim) and using the plugs. The setup allows you to remove the modification if needed, while keeping the EGR valve in place. So it will look stock, but is blocking in two ways, jic. Ron put one on his older truck.

Been a bit, just wanted to update. I re-tuned the truck before putting the EGR back in (put it to stock, then back to my settings) and that did clear the codes. I did end up buying a used EGR off of ebay just to make the computer happy. All in all, I'm pretty happy. The only issue I have now is that at WOT, the truck seems to stutter around 3k-3.2k rpms, and then clears up and revs past. Not sure if it is something stupid or expensive, but I really have no reason to do WOT pulls so I'm not too concerned with it. My EOT and ECT are right where they should be, and I'm in the process of setting up an EGT probe just to monitor that. As long as everything seems to be doing its job, should I be worried about that stutter?
Also, does anybody know if the SCT EGT probe will work with any software rendition of the x4 programmer? I want that probe, but absolutely do not want to update my scanner due to the EGR functions it still has. I looked for a tuning forum but couldn't find one, so posting that here.
Thanks
