EGR with Tuner

I have a Edge Tuner with attitude I use only when pulling and just use the #1 or at very most #2 setting. Was curious if any one is using this set-up and has the egr unpluged and what kind of results are you getting. I know a lot of guys are running the egr un-plugged, but how about with a tuner too.
I have an '04 6.0 with no other mods except an airraid replacement air filter.

I run an SCT tuner and it is programmed to turn off the EGR. When I have some free time, I will exchange the Y-up pipe (has a stub which dircets air through the EGR system) to a welded shut up pipe and a cap to plug the EGR cooler tube. The EGR valve could (in stock tune) open and close as directed, but no exhaust can flow through.

I have the Edge with the EGR unplugged and no problems yet. My 2005 6.0 has eaten two turbos (with EGR plugged in) and now the EGR has been snipped.

with the amount of soot the tuners and modules generate, I wouldn't run with the EGR plugged in.jmo

EGR Unplug

Use caution when unplugging that thing. It will throw internal codes and some posters have reported the check engine light tripped, which means a trip to the dealer. If you are going to do that, the best way is to electronically disable it with a tuner.

Unless it is a CA emissions engine the '04 6.0 will not light up the CEL. It will throw codes but, no lights. The codes relate to the EGR Valve failure....'cause it's unplugged.

Customz, wyoguy has an '04.

wyoguy, if you re-enable the EGR Valve the codes will clear after a number of restarts and some miles. At least it used to anyway, not sure what the reflashes have done.

BTW: Mine has been unplugged for over 27,000 miles.

oops! '04 shouldn't throw CEL except CA trucks. The codes will be present, but I always had to clear them with the SCMT. I believe 3 restarts is what it takes to turn off the CEL without a tuner. I am unsure how long the EGR trouble codes remain present

My truck broke down 4 hours from home on Memorial Day Weekend. Wouldn't do anything but barely idle and it happened suddenly. I had to have it towed to a dealership. We found it to be a stuck open EGR valve and the service manager said it was the worst he had ever seen. Only 49,000 miles on my truck. They had to order a new one and put it in. I'm going to have it unplugged from now on

Thumbs up

Thanks guys, this is great stuff.
Have read most of the treads here on the egr thing, but this is great to hear actual testimonials.
It is unpluged. Will report back after the weekend.
Thanks

Ok I see the info on 04 and 06, can anyone tell me if you will get a CEL on the 2005? Are there any cons to unhooking the EGR? I see a lot of good an nothing bad with disconnecting the EGR.
