The hot brake smell is an interesting observation.
I posted several years ago that I seemed to get better fuel mileage with the sway control off when pulling my 5th wheel. I contributed that increase because the brakes were engaging intermittently by the sway control.
I know a 5th wheel does not have the sway that a bumper pull trailer has, but I figure it still has enough to engage the brakes some.
Did your issues resolve once the steering angle sensor was replaced? If so are you able to tow as expected without having to disable the Sway Control each time you start the truck. I generally disable the SC when I start a trip but honestly I have never been able to tell any difference, on or off. I have a Blue Ox Sway Pro WDH.
have not towed in any wind since the repair. However it still feels different with the sway control on and off. On it still feels like the truck has a little dance like something is impacting how the truck handles. I need some big cross winds!
