Wiring Issue
Wiring Issue
I recently replaced the side badge on my 2020 F250 with the led version. They stated in the installation to install them to the Upfitter switches to turn on and off. I didn't want to deal with turning them on and off so tied them to the parking lights. When I lock and unlock doors they light up and when I open the doors they light up. When I turn on lights they light up. When I start the truck they don't work. Ive check with multimeter and there is still only 12 volts before and after starting up. would have preferred to just tap into the fuse for parking lights but couldn't find the fuse location for them in book.
They don't come on when put in gear either. I realized that I didn't check the voltage when it was started, only in acc mode so I am assuming that when it is running its generating more than 12 volts. I don't have the led headlights so I am assuming that those lights are drawing more power than the led lights.
in auto mode throw a hat or towel over the light sensor on dash and see it they come on with the rest of lights. If they do then they are wired right. Are you trying to have them on ALL the time? if so you need to rewire to a ign switched line.
I don't want them on all the time, only when the lights come on. I have turned them on with the truck running but they won't come on. They work fine when the truck isn't running.

Everything works fine with the lights until I actually start the truck, at that point they won't light up at all with the switch in any position. As previously stated the only thing that I can think of is the power used to run the Halogen vs the Led and since they are tied into the Halogen.
What did you use for your ground (-) wire?
The reason I ask, if you accidently tapped into an ignition hot wire with your negative lead once the wire is energized there won't be a potential difference across the leds, but you might get lucky and have enough current bleed through that ignition hot wire when it's turned off to light up the leds.

I am using the ground from parking lights. Ive also used the ground directly from the battery and still have the same issue. I will check the voltage with multimeter with it running to see what I am getting.
Did a little trouble shooting today and found out that the Led lights work fine with the truck off and with parking light connection made. Manually turned lights on and off and being tied into parking lights that came on with no issues. Disconnected parking light harness from halogen bulb and checked everything and still works fine. Started truck up with harness still disconnected and able to turn lights on and off and Led lights work fine. Reconnected parking light harness and turn on lights and lights come on but Led lights do not come on. Does anyone know the fuse location of the headlight for this particular year.
The halogen parking lights may use PWM (pulse width modulation); likely kicks in after the alternator is running; some LEDs will flicker or won’t work.
Can try antiflicker _capacitor_ modules maybe. Example -
There are Forscan setting for linear power, at least for the headlights. I had to change those for OEM LED headlights.
Linear power may shorten the life of the halogen headlight bulbs.
