Got a 1996 XLT F-350 7.3 Powerstroke 4x4. It's a single cab long bed. I got it right.....with almost $1000 bucks in parts. Came with new tanks and straps (RockAuto), and a bunch of other parts for the E-fuel conversion that is about half way done. I'm building the rest of the E=fuel conversion. (Benefits of working in an aluminum fabrication company!!) Plus....it belonged to a friend of mine that passed away. I bought it from his son.
Anyway, I installed the new rear tank and pick up with no problems. I finally got the front pick up (from Bronco Graveyard) for the new 19 gallon front tank. I go to install it and it hits the transfer case!! I'm like, OK......it must be the 16 gallon tank. I ordered one (Dorman) and it's not even close to fitting where it goes!! Meaning...the recesses in the tank aren't even close to matching where mounts into the cross members. The old rear tank was steel. The front one was already removed, so I don't know if it was steel or plastic tank.
All I see are 16 or 19 gallon front tanks. Salvage yards show a 17 gallon. Help!!
I had a 17 in a rc sb f150. It was very stubby in the front part.
I know it wasnt a 250 but a 19 gallon midshipmen was NOT going in there.(I misordered)
From the description, am suspecting that your friend may have started to go down an alternative parts path.
Might want to try getting an OE tank part number from TascaParts<dot> or FordPartsGiant<dot> and go from there. Another alternative is to call or visit the local dealership as they likely still have access to parts schematics and can possibly give you the original tank part number based of the VIN's build sheet. With the OE part number, can use this to cross-match over to aftermarket alternatives.
Another possibility is that the X-fer is either not OE or is not clocked in an OE configuration. Pictures will help here.
Got the original PLASTIC mid-ship tank from the previous owner!! Got the Ford tank straps coming (still available from Ford!) Of course, all the bad weather up north is slowing me down!!
Got my Fuel Lab fuel pressure regulator in. Got the Parker 802+ hose and push lock fittings and I'll start running the lines tomorrow. Electric fuel pump wiring is ran. All new rear brakes, drums, wheel cylinders and brake hardware is installed Waiting for some other stuff I ordered from Rock Auto....shocks, filters, t-stat and some other odds and ends!
Anyway....it's coming together!! Gotta get it going.....I sold my 93 Bronco!!
