Ok, so I made the mistake of pulling the front pump in the horizontal position. I read this post that says I need to reinstall the clutch packs with the transmission in the vertical position. Can someone explain how to do that or even better would be pictures/ a video. Thanks.
You might be able to get the pump housing back in if you can get the trans vertical without things falling out too far.Rotate and wiggle the internals till you're fairly satisfied every thing is in place and give the pump install a trial run.Don't force anything. If things still spin freely, you might have gotten lucky. Otherwise, everything has to come out and it's start over time.Get the manual, some assembly lube (Vaseline),some good snap ring pliers, and get to work. The C6 is one of the easiest transmissions to work on.
What happened to me was that without the pump in place, the guts tended to fall down and slip forward just enough that splines came out of sockets. This made things not go back together correctly, the whole stack of clutches and drums would end up too long, keeping the pump from seating properly. I did this 3 or more times. Most aggravating! I finally found that I could set the transmission upright, tail shaft down, in my black and Decker Workmate 550. This made it way easier to drop each assembly into the housing and get it meshed with the prior assembly.
You probably don't need to reassemble each clutch pack so much as get each meshed with the prior like I did. Find a way to stand it upright, try turning things to see if they will drop into place. If they don't, you will need to pull assemblies out one at a time until you find the one that's not meshed. Line it up and it should drop in. In my case, at least from what I remember, it wasn't the actual discs in the clutch but the splined shafts and or housings between units.
I feel your pain. C4 in my 78 blew the pump gasket and I changed horizontally and a lot of stuff came forward with the pump. Spent the rest of the day wiggling, twisting, rotating with trans fluid in my face band anchors falling out. I'm not a transmission person. Got it together and been fine since. I will not do it again though.
