I'm new to automatic transmissions, but i figured I could probably replace my front pump seals. I think I should have stood it up on its tailshaft when I took the pump out. There's a big drum shaped piece that kind if came loose. I think I got it back where it goes (slips into some recesses) but I'm not sure. Does the alignment of this piece matter?

its been awhile since I rebuilt my c6 but this may help.
the drum # 74 has cluth plates in side with splines that slide over the splined part if #68. make sure every clutch plate is on the splines or there will be clearance problems.
as far as a clocked postion it doesn't mater, it will spin or lock up depending what gear you are in.
The only thing I can see that looks out of place is one washer at the bottom. I've moved it around a lot and it doesn't seem to snap into anything. Its on the too left of this picture: imgur: the simple image sharer
