A few years back I posted about removing the green filters on my dash lights, and drew a few comments liking the old 3" vacuum gauge and the cheapie tach I had. Well, the vacuum gauge was a POS which could NOT be made to light properly and the tach was a cheap 8,000rpm job that had BRIGHT - non-adjustable - LED lighting... so when I'm driving down a dark country road at my maybe 2000 rpm the needle seems barely off the peg and I have a searchlight in my eyes. Had someone pay me back unexpectedly on one of those loans you just know you will never see again (whoo hoo!) and decided to go with new AutoMeter min-gauges. 6K tach fits nicely on the steering column with the vacuum gauge parked to its left. Lighting is finally right and with a 300/C6, I'm pretty sure I will never peg this tach but at least I can see the needle without having to squint.
Even replaced the temperature sensor and got my temp gauge to read in the middle of its range. Note to self - if I ever have to drop my manifolds again, I'm replacing that sensor THEN. It sits just aft of the #6 exhaust port, UNDER the intake, and with an A/C vehicle unless you have 2" diameter 4 foot double-elbowed arms, it is a PAIN to reach.
All of the new gauges just look too modern for me. Yours don't look bad at all, but the gold on the gauge faces, while subtle, still screams 21st century at me.
I think I'd like to find an older tach to put in my rig. I'd also like an older pod with mechanical Oil, Temp, and Volt gauges, to hook up and mount under the dash - and while keeping the in-dash gauges still functioning as well.
Looks good to me mate, nothing wrong there as far as I'm concerned.
I'm planning something similar to meangreen with a trio of underdash gauges for temp, oil pressure and battery to compliment the stock units... which for me at the moment aren't functional.
This is what I ended up with in my truck. Never liked underdash gauges so I built a pillar gauge for boost, egt and fuel pressure. The exposed wiring in the pics are all loomed nicely now. May have went a little over board on the tach mount.
