I'm in need for a new IDM for my 96 7.3. Basically a stock truck other than a 6637 air filter and round downpipe, and a Superchips programmer. Don't care about HP or hot rodding, just reliability. What is the best value out there as far as a durable IDM?
An IDM from the last couple of years of production is going to not be as old but may have more miles. They also have different life stories about where they were operated.
Try to find one from 2000-up in an arid climate if for no reason other than it's newer and probably not full of moisture-derived corrosion. Luck of the draw though.......
The guys at Diesel Technology of Chattanooga rebuild the IDM's all the time, and told me they replace (around?) 20 different components on every single rebuild regardless of what the issue is. I highly recommend contacting them, they can send you one first and take yours back as a core. I've dealt with them for years and they do a great job.

Thanks for that info sir. I may send mine in as a preventative as lots of miles...just none lately...
I just went through that whole time consuming troubleshooting series on my 96 PSD 4x4 Box truck, ended up getting an IDM rebuilt (mine had obvious corrosion on pins, but that didnt solve my intermittent misfire problem). The place was in Pompano beach Fl, dont recall there name. Good customer service, they where first or second when I googled them. Prompt core charge refund. She's running like a champ after going thru every topside fuel component, #3 injector replacement the whole VCG under and out, cleaning/probing 43 pin connector as well as replacing every sensor (with motorcraft) and rebuilding IPR on my bench. Dropping and cleaning tanks and FSV. Just got back from my second Fl-Arkansas, best she did loaded was 14.3 MPG! I learned alot while working on the thing ended up buying AE and a dongle to help troubleshooting. Im so happy with this old girl that after the move (i have a whole bunch of loads just moving my Artist/GF stuff) im gonna pull the box off and Ag tag her in Arkansas and keep her for another 10-20 years until I expire haha.
